What Holds Us Back?

Inside each of us there is a latent desire to be somewhere we are not. To be someone whom we are not. Inside everyone is a kernel of dissatisfaction with our present circumstances. In an informal poll of people with whom you have an adequate level of rapport, it is almost guaranteed that they will admit a level of dissatisfaction with some - or perhaps many - areas of their life.

So why then, do so few people seem to actually do anything about their dissatisfaction?

The funny thing is, most people have very little problem taking care of the simple and small things. I'm feeling hungry, so I eat. I don't like the way my kitchen is not clean, so I clean it.

These examples may seem paltry and simplistic - but therein lies their beauty. They serve as shining examples of how we tackle and eliminate dissatisfaction. The neat thing is wee get rid of ALL dissatisfaction the same way. By doing something about our present circumstances.

So if its that simple - I restate the question: Why do people live with dissatisfaction?

Well - I'm guessing the answer to that question is many-faceted. But in most cases, I'd say the underlying answer is fear. Fear is one of our strongest motivators. Fear is the voice that says to us, "if I try to change my circumstances... I might fail... that would be bad... but what if I succeed?? THEN what would be expected of me??" The uncomfortable thought of success leads a lot of people to undershoot their expectations of themselves. What's worse, is that nobody really wants to admit to a fear of success - it sounds crazy! But the fact remains... its a roadblock for many people.

So if you're looking at a situation where a fear of success may be holding you back, ask yourself - really ask yourself - so what if I succeed?? Do you really think that bad things will come of your success? Or will it improve your life? Will it move you one step closer to your goal. Move you one step further along the path of your deliberate life? Chances are, all the things you think could go sideways, are way off base. So challenge yourself. Face the fear. Do it anyway!

Our Greatest Fear
Marianne Williamson from her book "A Return to Love"

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate,
but that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.

And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

Let your own light shine!!!
